Program Overview

Your January in Amsterdam program lasts three weeks and is designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will enroll in one CIEE course taught at CIEE Amsterdam. Enhance your experience with extracurricular activities while immersing yourself in Dutch culture. Live and learn in Amsterdam!

Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ cosmopolitan city, celebrated for its rich diversity, stunning architecture, and welcoming atmosphere. January is the perfect time to experience the city's charm while seeing landmarks like the Canal Ring and the Jordaan neighborhood and enjoying winter festivities like the Amsterdam Light Festival. Housing

Housing is tight in Amsterdam, however CIEE offers a variety of accommodation options within the Amsterdam metropolitan area, including residence halls, shared apartments, and homestay families. All housing is within a 40- to 50-minute commute to CIEE Amsterdam. If we cannot accommodate your first choice of housing, we will let you know before you arrive onsite.

  • Academic Course: Take one CIEE course delivered in-person at the CIEE Center. 
  • Immersive Experiences: Participate in activities, excursions, study tours, and more that showcase your host city's culture, values, and local art, film, music, cuisine, and sports scenes.

Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Amsterdam will open doors for you to explore the Netherlands' rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of past excursions and activities:

  • Experience a world-class theater or dance performance at a historic concert hall such as the Royal Concertgebouw
  • Hear a guest lecture on key contemporary public health issues in the Netherlands from an expert in Dutch politics
  • Take field trips in and around the city to get to know this accessible, environmentally conscious, and multicultural region

GAIN Travel Grants - Up to $1,500 toward travel costs guaranteed to students with a FAFSA SAI of $10,000 or less. Higher should still apply!

Gilman Go Global Grants - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $1,000 guaranteed to Benjamin A Gilman International Scholarship applicants.

Merit-Based Scholarships - Up to $2,500/semester, $1,500/quarter, and $750/summer awarded to students deomonstrating high academic achievement.
